About Us: The Story Behind CyclingAppsHub

Hi, I’m Toni – the founder, head tester, and chief pedal-pusher behind CyclingAppsHub.com.

Let me guess why you’re here. You probably just downloaded a “free” cycling app, spent 15 minutes setting up an account, mounted your phone to your handlebars, and rode 10 miles away from home… only to realize the “offline maps” feature you desperately needed is locked behind a $10/month premium paywall.

Yeah. I’ve been there. Way too many times.

Why I actually built this Hub

If you search for a cycling app today, you’re met with hundreds of options. And if you Google “best cycling apps,” you usually get the same generic listicles written by people who probably haven’t ever clipped into a pedal.

I was tired of downloading apps, creating accounts, and mounting my phone to our handlebars, only to realize the software didn’t support GPX imports, wouldn’t sync with our Garmin, or was just a clunky mess.

I realized there wasn’t a single, honest, easy-to-use place to just find out which app works and which don’t.

So, I decided to build CyclingAppsHub.com.

I didn’t want to make just another blog. I wanted to build a proper, searchable database – a true hub – run by actual riders who care about the details.

How I do things around here (No BS allowed)

To make sure you don’t waste your ride time messing with bad software, I stick to a few simple rules:

  • 🚴‍♂️ I actually ride bikes: I don’t just copy-paste app descriptions from the App Store. I download them, sync our heart rate monitors, and go sweat. If an app crashes when you go off-route on a gravel trail, you’re going to hear about it.
  • 💸 I hate hidden paywalls: Nothing is more annoying than “fake free” apps. I make a very clear distinction between what is 100% Free, what is Freemium, and what requires a subscription to actually be useful.
  • 🔍 I built a tool to save you time: Don’t want to read a 2,000-word review? No problem. I built App Finder so you can just click your device, your goal (like indoor training or route planning), and your budget, and find your match instantly.
  • 🥊 I call it as I see it: When we do Head-to-Head comparisons (like Strava vs. Komoot), we don’t pick favorites based on brand names. We look at who actually delivers the better features for your specific type of riding.

A note on trust and keeping the lights on

Let’s be completely transparent: running a database like this, paying for premium app subscriptions to test them, and keeping the servers running takes time and a lot of coffee.

Sometimes, if you buy a premium app or piece of gear through a link on our site, we might earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

But-and this is a big butnobody can buy a good review here. My editorial independence is everything. If an app is terrible, I will tell you to save your money and point you toward a better free alternative. I value our ride time, and Ie respect yours.

Ready to find your new favorite app?

Whether you’re a bikepacker planning a multi-day epic ride, a commuter trying to find the safest bike lanes, or a data-obsessed indoor trainer pushing watts in your garage… you’re in the right place.

Saddle up, press start, and enjoy the ride.

Toni, Founder of CyclingAppsHub.com
